Erick Boy

Erick Boy is the Chief Nutritionist in the HarvestPlus section of the Innovation Policy and Scaling Unit. As head of nutrition for the HarvestPlus Program since 2008, he has led research that has generated scientific evidence on biofortified staple crops as efficacious and effective interventions to help address iron, vitamin A, and zinc deficiency in sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and South Asia.

High cost of healthy food linked to stunting, new study finds (Devex)

Devex reported on a new study by Senior Researchers Derek Headey and Harold Alderman on the relative caloric prices of healthy and unhealthy foods across income levels and continents. The article described the study’s key takeaway and quoted Derek Headey, who emphasized that poor people in developing countries not only have poor income, but live in poor food systems where nutritious foods are expensive. Headey noted that more research is needed into making nutrient-dense foods more widely available in poor countries.
